Okay so time to talk about Dublin, the land of leprechauns, or, more accurately, Guinness. I had never been to Dublin before this trip, or Ireland for that matter, but I really liked this city. It definitely helped that all the main areas were completely decked out in Christmas decorations- it was gorgeous! Truth be told, I half expected the city to be painted green, with rainbows everywhere and pots of gold. This was obviously not the case, however Dublin was a magical place nonetheless.
The first night we got in we walked around the main area and visited Trinity College, which has one of the most beautiful campuses I have ever seen. That night, we got dinner at a traditional Irish pub and watched the Ireland v Estonia football (soccer) game. It was a huge deal because they were playing for a spot in the European world cup, and everyone in the pub was decked out in green showing their Irish pride. Ireland won, and it was the first time in 28 years that they made the tournament, so needless to say everyone in Dublin was going crazy. It was very exciting to see, and probably not something I'll see again anytime soon over here because because Scotland's national sports team win, well, never.
On Saturday, we visited St Patricks Cathedral (where the first Christian was baptized) and Christ Church. For lunch, we stumbled upon a really cute farmers market where we bought delicious scones and smoothies. In the afternoon, we went to the Guinness Storehouse, which is the headquarters of Guiness and got to take a tour to see how their beer is made. I say in my title that Dublin is the land of Guinness, mainly because you can't walk 100 feet without seeing a sign for the beer. Every pub advertises that they have Guinness on tap, and because you can't walk 100 feet without seeing a pub (or 4), you thus end up seeing a lot of Guinness signs. Thus, it was a really interesting experience to be at the storehouse considering Guinness is basically the lifeblood of the country. Also, you end the tour at a bar which is 7 stories above the city of Dublin and you get to enjoy a Guinness, (or in my case a pepsi-I know I know sooo lame, but to be honest I really don't like beer to begin and Guinness is especially bitter and heavy. I had half a pint a few floors below so that counts for something, right?)
Saturday night we went to Temple Bar, which is the bar to go to in Dublin, aka it was mad expensive and full of tourists, but it was SO much fun. They had a live band who were amazing, probably the best live music band I've ever seen.
Sunday we got to see Dublin's castle, the famous spire and walk around the part of Dublin north of the River Liffey. We spent the night at a local pub where I got to watch the Giants play for a bit (best day ever!) and went back early because we had to get up at 4am to catch our flight back to Edinburgh.
Next up, BARCELONA on the 25th!!!! I hope everyone at home has a great Thanksgiving! I will miss my family and friends from home a lot, but I guess if I can't be home then Spain will have to do ;).
